Position: HVAC Engineer - Utilities & Critical SystemsLocation: S JHBFacility: Pharma ManufacturerRef: MVG/HVACWe are seeking an experienced and technically skilled HVAC Engineer to oversee the efficient operation, maintenance, and optimisation of all air and utility services within a critical manufacturing environment. This role involves leading preventative maintenance strategies, managing mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation breakdowns, and coordinating technical services with external vendors.Minimum Requirements
BEng/BTech/National Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electromechanical Engineering.
Health and Safety Management experience.
At least 3-5 years working within a regulated Pharma GMP environment
Total relevant working experience of more than 5 years
Extensive technical knowledge of utilities such as Chillers, HVAC, and Water Reticulation Systems.
Strong understanding of HVAC controls, instrumentation, SOPs, qualification, and validation processes.
Proven leadership experience in managing technical teams.
Excellent fault-finding, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Experience in planned maintenance in critical environments (advantageous).
Capital project and plant modification management experience.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee operation, preventative, and breakdown maintenance of boreholes, cooling towers, water recovery systems, AHUs, stability chambers, chillers, and other critical utilities.
Ensure compliance with statutory inspections, cGxP requirements, and recognised pharmaceutical standards (SAHPRA/FDA/PICs).
Lead the design and execution of critical systems projects.
Prepare and maintain SOPs, change controls, CAPAs, deviations, and risk assessments.
Manage capital expenditure budgets and project delivery within time, quality, and cost parameters.
Implement health and safety procedures, conduct inspections, and ensure compliance with legislation.
Provide ongoing training and ensure operator competency is up to date.
Monitor equipment performance, introduce improvements, and apply predictive maintenance strategies.
Foster a customer-focused approach with clear communication and timely resolution of issues.
Lead and develop the technical team to meet operational and performance standards.
