- Supervising Transportation Staff:
- This includes hiring, training, and performance management of drivers and dispatchers.
- Managing Daily Operations:
- This involves scheduling routes, dispatching vehicles, and coordinating deliveries to ensure timely and efficient transportation.
- Ensuring Compliance:
- A key responsibility is to ensure all operations adhere to relevant transportation laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Maintaining Vehicles and Equipment:
- Supervisors oversee the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment to ensure they are safe and in good working order.
- Managing Costs and Budgets:
- Monitoring transportation costs and identifying opportunities for cost savings are important aspects of the role.
- Resolving Issues:
- Supervisors are responsible for addressing and resolving any transportation-related issues or conflicts that arise, including accidents or delays.
- Maintaining Records:
- This includes tracking driver hours, vehicle maintenance, and other relevant data kpl of vehicles, income and expenditure of vehicle utilization.
- Customer Service:
- In some cases, supervisors may interact with customers to address their needs and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Camera footage and downloading same for incidents and reports from drivers.
- Communicating with Insurance brokers on all relevant matters.
- Cross border movement knowledge and experience including the application of cross border permits.
- Strong Leadership and Communication Skills: Effective communication with drivers, dispatchers, and other staff is essential.
- Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Abilities: Supervisors need to be able to quickly and effectively resolve any issues that arise.
- Organizational and Time Management Skills: Managing multiple tasks and priorities is crucial in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of Transportation Regulations: A solid understanding of relevant laws and regulations is necessary.
- Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems: Experience with dispatching software, GPS tracking, and other relevant tools is often required.
- Safety Consciousness: Ensuring a safe working environment for all staff is paramount.
- May work extended hours and weekends is mandatory, and every alternate public holiday.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage a team of drivers and dispatchers efficiently.
- Spends most of the workday in an office or transportation yard.
- Matric
- Minimum of 5 years experience in transportation management
- Experience and knowledge of Telematics, extracting reports and monitoringdriver performance and communicating same to management in the form of weekly reports, and counselling drivers.
