Test Lead (Automation & JavaScript)Location: South Africa (Midrand) Employment Type: Contract - PermanentAbout the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Test Lead to spearhead our quality assurance efforts within a dynamic technology environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end testing lifecycle, driving test automation strategies, and leading a team of testers to ensure the highest levels of software quality are achieved. This role requires a strong background in automation testing, JavaScript programming, and leadership capabilities.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the QA/testing team, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback.Define, implement, and continuously improve test strategies, processes, and standards. Drive the adoption of test automation frameworks and tools to increase efficiency and coverage.Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and project managers to ensure quality is built into the SDLC.Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using JavaScript and related frameworks.Oversee test planning, test case design, execution, and defect management. Ensure testing deliverables are completed on time and meet quality standards.Provide regular reports on test progress, coverage, and quality metrics to stakeholders.Champion a culture of continuous improvement, quality, and collaboration within the testing team.Manage risks and escalate issues that may impact project timelines or quality.Required Qualifications & SkillsTechnical Skills:Proven experience as a Test Lead or Senior QA Engineer in software testing and automation.Strong knowledge of automation tools (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or equivalent).Proficiency in JavaScript and modern testing frameworks (Mocha, Jasmine, Jest, etc.). Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, Azure DevOps, or similar).Understanding of API testing tools (e.g., Postman, REST Assured).Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and best practices.Leadership & Soft Skills:Demonstrated leadership experience managing test teams. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Ability to mentor and upskill junior testers.Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.Qualifications:Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.Relevant ISTQB Certification (Foundation/Advanced) is highly advantageous. Minimum of 57 years experience in software testing, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
