Role Purpose:The Senior Accountant will oversee project-based financials, monthly reporting, and the end-to-end accounting cycle, including compliance with South African tax and financial legislation. This role includes managing a small team and collaborating with both local and international stakeholders.Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the full accounting function including:
  • General Ledger, Balance Sheet, Trial Balance, and Profit & Loss
  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and analysis
  • Manage project accounting: project costing, billing, WIP, revenue recognition
  • Ensure tax compliance: VAT, Income Tax, PAYE, SARS submissions
  • Prepare and review cross-border transactions, intercompany reconciliations, and compliance with international tax implications
  • Collaborate with external auditors, ensuring timely and clean audits
  • Oversee ERP system processes and controls
  • Manage vendors and ensure timely payments
  • Deal with customers and follow up with the collections team
  • Complete both internal and statutory audits
  • Lead and mentor a small accounting team
  • Support management with budget preparation and financial forecasts
  • Provide input on finance process improvements, controls, and system enhancements
  • Travel to operational or project sites as required (locally and cross-border)
Minimum Requirements:
  • CA(SA) or BCompt with Postgraduate/Honours in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years experience in a full-function accounting role
  • Industry experience in Construction, Engineering, or Heavy Industrial sectors
  • Strong knowledge of South African financial legislation and tax laws (SARS, VAT, income tax)
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP or similar)
  • Experience managing finance staff
  • Excellent financial reporting and analysis skills
  • Comfortable working in project-based and cross-border financial environments
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
