
Intern - Network Security Engineer - Midrand

- Candidates must have completed a 3-year degree or diploma in IT (must be relevant to Network security). Please note that this is NOT a WIL program
- Candidates must be computer literate and must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, internet
- Candidates must have no criminal record.
- Candidates must currently be unemployed.
- Candidates must not be participating on another learnership or internship program.
- Candidates must NOT be enrolled at any tertiary institution.
- Candidates must live in Gauteng (preferably in the Midrand area) – relocation is NOT an option.
- Candidates must be under the age of 35 as of 1 August 2025
- Candidates must be a South African Citizen (African, Asian, Indian)
- Technical Skills (Foundational)
- Basic Networking Knowledge
- Understanding of TCP/IP, subnets, VLANs, routing, DNS, DHCP.
- Firewall Fundamentals
- Awareness of firewall types (stateful, stateless, NGFW).
- Understanding firewall rules, access control lists (ACLs), NAT, VPN basics.
- Operating Systems
- Familiarity with Windows & Linux environments.
- Security Concepts
- Basics of threat types (malware, phishing, DDoS, intrusion).
- Awareness of CIA Triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability).
- Troubleshooting Skills
- Ability to use ping, traceroute, and packet-capture tools (e.g., Wireshark).
- Hands-On Tools (Entry Level) – Will be nice but not a requirement
- Exposure to at least one firewall platform (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Check Point,).
- Basic logging/monitoring using SIEM or vendor dashboards.
- Willingness to Learn – curiosity to pick up new firewall technologies and processes.
- Communication Skills – ability to ask clear questions and explain findings simply.
- Team Collaboration – working with senior engineers, SOC teams, and mentors.
- Attention to Detail – careful when reviewing firewall rules or documentation.
- Adaptability – readiness to learn from mistakes and adjust quickly.
- Problem-Solving Mindset – approaching troubleshooting logically and methodically.
