- Provide strategic direction for the entire internal audit function, ensuring alignment with the company’s business goals and objectives.
- Develop and manage a comprehensive, risk-based audit plan that covers all operational, financial, and IT audits.
- Ensure all internal audit activities and processes comply with relevant regulatory frameworks, including King IV and South African Reserve Bank (SARB) requirements.
- Drive the adoption of modern audit technologies, such as data analytics and automated tools, to improve efficiency and gain deeper insights.
- Serve as a key advisor to executive management and the Board Audit Committee on emerging risks and control issues.
- Oversee the department’s quality assurance program, ensuring that all audits are executed according to the highest professional standards (IIA).
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of audit professionals, fostering a culture of integrity and continuous improvement.
- Prepare and present concise, impactful reports on audit findings and progress to senior management and governance committees.
Experience:
- 10+ years of internal audit experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role, specifically within the financial services or banking sectors.
- Proven expertise in performing risk assessments and developing risk-based audit plans.
- Extensive knowledge of internal control systems and a strong background in leading audits across financial, operational, compliance, and IT functions.
- Demonstrated experience in engaging effectively with regulators and audit committees.
- Matric (Grade 12)
- A relevant BCom degree in Internal Auditing, Accounting, or Auditing is a must.
- A postgraduate qualification in Risk Management, Governance, or Business Leadership would be a definite advantage
- Role requires a CA(SA), CIA, or an equivalent professional qualification.
- You must be a current member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
- Computer literate in MS Office (Word and Excel a must)
- Strong knowledge of best practice risk management, corporate governance, and project management.
- Deep understanding of the Institute of Internal Audit Standards and relevant management theories.
- A strategic thinker with a high level of executive presence, influence, and change leadership abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a confident demeanour, and a team-oriented approach.
- A highly motivated individual who is focused on quality and committed to meeting deadlines.
