With nearly 1500MW of generation capacity in operation across 14 power plants in 6 countries, 760MW in construction or near operation and
2,000MW in development, the company is one of the largest independent power producers solely focused in Africa. The company is 100 owned by international businesses and has a proven track record for supporting the ongoing development of the African power sector. The company's various generation technologies include gas, wind, solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS), and, geothermal. The company is also actively pursuing new opportunities which are emerging from the energy transition, including desalination projects powered by renewables, as well as green hydrogen and ammonia projects.They now seek a senior manager: asset optimization to join their team. You will report directly into the MD asset management and operations and will play a lead role in driving opportunities to enhance the value of portfolio companies within the company. This position requires a blend of strategic thinking, financial acumen, operational curiosity and execution within a matrix organisation. As well as subject matter expertise.JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
  • You will be required to work closely with the wider corporate and country teams, including operations, business finance, project finance, legal, business development, and country managing directors and general managers;
  • You will be responsible for facilitating strategy development, producing high quality financial and commercial analysis, time-sensitive presentations, reports and papers;
  • Managing value creation initiatives:
  • You will be required to work with senior management across the company to drive the strategic planning process and set value creation priorities for operating assets. This includes establishing timelines and processes and supporting teams to ensure effective execution of agreed priorities;
  • o You will be required to act as lead commercial support to MD AM & operations, including scenario analysis to inform decision-making, applying a knowledge of value drivers and levers;
  • o You will be required to support the MD AM & operations and group finance develop the annual operational plan budgets and assumptions including supporting asset teams with deep dives on capex, major maintenance or continuous improvement plans;
  • o You will be required to project manage value optimization efforts, including piloting projects with a portfolio effect, and tracking and supporting value initiatives across the portfolio;
  • o You will be required to work closely with the group business finance function to review and update inputs for operational and enterprise financial models used to value the business;
  • Actively drive operational excellence:
o You will be required to perform critical review and analysis of information provided from the operational assets, validate data accuracy, prepare key metric dashboards and analysis to track business performance and support decision making;o You will be required to identify and recommend responses to operational problems, challenges, or opportunities;o You will be required to take ownership of the monthly business operations section of the management information report;o You will be required to create and maintain systems and processes to streamline operations, whilst continually reviewing areas for improvement.
  • Stakeholder management:
o You will be required to ensure clear actions from meetings are documented, communicated, actioned and followed up with relevant stakeholders;o You will be required to establish and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders;o You will be required to collaborate and improve interaction across group finance, legal, operations and business development team to improve alignment towards strategic goals;o You will be required to ensure participants are prepared for executive meetings, including advance distribution of discussion documents (e.g. board meetings);o You will be required to be able to support asset teams manage compliance with financing terms, optimising financing arrangements, and Lender management (consents, waivers, and distributions);
  • Organisational assistance:
o You will be required to assist in the preparation of board materials;o You will be required to work closely with the MD: AM and operations in preparing the agenda for meetings, moderating meeting participants and drafting reports and correspondence as required;o You will be required to provide overall MD: AM and operations support including managing priorities, developing analytical insights, providing updates on the progress of specific projects and maintenance outages and monitoring/reporting on operational and financial KPI's.CORE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
  • You have exceptional analytical skills - ability to gather data, analyse, visualise and structure fact-based recommendations;
  • You are curious about operations and passionate about continuous improvement and operational excellence;
  • You have excellent communication (verbal and written) skills in English - ability to convey complex concepts concisely and effectively across multiple levels including, executive leadership team, peers and with external stakeholders;
  • You have sound influencing skills - strong interpersonal skills, comfortable engaging with and negotiating with all stakeholder levels, including senior executives;
  • You have outstanding facilitation skills - skills to guide and direct objectives at meetings, strategic planning sessions etc;
  • You are execution and results-focused, with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, fluid environment;
  • You have strong project management skills - highly organised, structured and detail orientated work ethic.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • You have a degree at least at honours in engineering, economics, finance with a preference for in addition, a commercial qualification including an MBA, masters in finance or CFA Charter;
  • You have a minimum of 7 years' current, relevant professional experience, from an operations. asset management, or investment banking role with exposure to project finance and the infrastructure and power sector;
  • You have exposure to contract, contract negotiation and dispute;
  • You have excellent MS Office suite experience, particularly with Excel, Word and PowerPoint (e.g. financial models and presentations);
  • You have experience with report writing and presentations to senior leaders.
This is a VERY senior role. You need to have an enviable track record in this space -with the ability to lead, drive, and direct this space. It's a new role.
