Founded in 1997, Somerset College is a welcoming, stimulating centre of learning situated in the beautiful Cape Winelands.Music education at Somerset College spans from Pre-Prep to Grade 12, offering a wide range of activities including choirs, marimba bands, jazz bands, string ensembles, and class bands. The department provides approximately 450 individual lessons on various instruments. Highlights like the annual Pops Concert, the Grade 1-4 Instrumental Programme and Grade 8 & 9 Band Programme reflect the school’s commitment to musical development.An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Music teacher with experience in Pre-Preparatory and Junior Preparatory class music teaching, co-curricular experience in ensemble and choir direction, and preferably experience in teaching group instrumental lessons.The successful candidate should: - teach Pre-Preparatory and Preparatory class music from Grades 000-3 according to the timetable;
- manage and implement an appropriate curriculum pertaining to music and movement for Pre-Preparatory and Preparatory children;
- liaise with the Preparatory Arts and Drama Departments for events such as Celebratory Assemblies, Founder's Day and similar occasions;
- work with the class teachers to put together scripts/music for these occasions;
- direct the Grade R and Junior Preparatory choirs as afternoon co-curricular activities and manage their performances;
- develop a Junior Primary Orff ensemble
- play piano accompaniment in class music and where necessary at events and choir practices;
- participate in the life of the Pre-Preparatory School and Preparatory School for special days, functions and events;
- contribute to the operational requirements of the Pre-Preparatory School and Preparatory School when necessary for various duties and responsibilities;
- uphold the Christian ethos and values of the School;
- have the suitable academic and professional qualification;
- have a warm and nurturing disposition;
- have good interpersonal skills and proven ability to work as part of a team;
- have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- remain current and aware of the latest trends in technology and ECD education;
- have proof of registration with SACE.
