To oversee and manage the end-to-end operations of the Distribution Centre (DC), ensuring efficient inbound, picking, inventory, and outbound processes while maintaining service level agreements with the business. The DC Manager will provide strategic direction, ensure compliance with South African labour and safety legislation, and drive operational excellence through continuous improvement initiatives.Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Manage overall DC performance across inbound, outbound, inventory, and picking functions.
- Ensure service delivery in line with client SLAs and internal KPIs.
- Drive operational efficiency through process optimisation and cost control.
- Maintain accurate stock levels and system integrity across WMS (SAP) platforms.
- Leadership & People Management
- Lead a multi-shift workforce, including operations managers, shift managers, and supervisors.
- Ensure fair labour practices and compliance with the Labour Relations Act and BCEA.
- Develop succession pipelines, training, and coaching for DC leadership teams.
- Maintain high levels of staff engagement, retention, and morale.
- Enforce compliance with the OHS Act, food safety (HACCP) standards, and company policies.
- Oversee risk management, including fire safety, security, and accident prevention.
- Ensure regulatory and client audit readiness at all times.
- Manage DC budget, including staffing, equipment, and operational expenses.
- Provide monthly financial and operational performance reports to senior leadership.
- Align DC strategy with client business objectives and broader company goals.
- Drive automation, digitisation, and continuous improvement projects.
Address client concerns proactively and ensure contractual obligations are met.Requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Industrial Engineering.
- 810 years experience in warehouse/distribution management, with at least 5 in a senior management role.
- Proven experience in FMCG/retail distribution
- Strong knowledge of WMS (SAP essential), inventory management, and warehouse best practices.
- Excellent leadership, financial acumen, and client relationship management.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, weekends, and public holidays when required.
