- The functional safety technician is to ensure that the controls department adhere to the safety requirements set out in standards and designs documentation (risk assessment, safety matrix, safety function layout)
- Drives functional safety aspects within the controls and commissioning department to ensure that Jendamark machines conform to CE requirements
- Set up & program safety and non-safety controls systems to accommodate project requirements
- Know and understand machine functional safety concepts and principles encompassing mechanical electrical fluid power and controls.
- Know and understand applicable directives and standards.
- Ensure that controls department are adhering to safety requirements set out in standards
- Drives functional safety aspects within the controls and commissioning department
- Produce document for the safety function layout for F.S. Engineer to assess and approve
- Produce validated documentation for F.S. Engineer to assess and approve
- Ensure commissioning department perform and document functional safety validations as set out in the CE validation checklist.
- 3rd party assessor interaction when required.
- Set up & program control systems to accommodate project requirements
- Test & commission facilities to completion as specified in project scope of work
- Have involvement on project initiation with design to understand safety requirements
- Travel locally and internationally to assist with installation & commissioning of facilities on site
- Compilation of inspection and measuring reports after measuring of components has been completed
- Provide supporting explanations if required to supporting departments
- Increase knowledge of functional safety concepts, standards, and directives.
- Staying current and aware of different products and developments plays an important role. Supplier relations need to be fostered.
- Liaise with customer, if necessary, with regards to requirements & control system.
- Introduce functional safety training within the company and departments with the goal of up-skilling others
- Perform all the above tasks with efficiency, excellence, and finesse.
- Mentor, instruct, and uplift designers and commissioning team in functional safety aspects.
- Proactively involved with the customer to ensure highly successful project outcomes.

- TÜV Functional Safety Technician certification is greatly beneficial.

- Ability to go "head-to-head" with a customer if necessary if they do not want to accept correct functional safety principles.
- Siemens or any relevant safety programming certificate would be beneficial
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of all aspects required for functionally safe machinery.
- Aspire to be certified as a TÜV Functional Safety Engineer.
- Strategic thinking and be able to foresee problems before they arise.
- Must be able to work well under pressure.
- Must have an understanding of what is required to lead a team and strive towards this.
- Good people management, motivational and leadership skills.
- Must practice good conflict resolution skills.
- Provide an environment where designers feel enthused and want to perform and achieve personal growth.
- Must be a good role model, and a leader that sub-ordinates would be eager to work under.
