This is a unique opportunity for a senior-level engineer with 5–7 years of experience in radio access network optimization across multiple technologies, including GSM, UMTS, LTE, and 5G.Location: JHB & CPT
Experience Required: 5–7 Years
RAN Vendor Competence: Ericsson / Huawei / ZTE / Nokia (requirements vary by country – refer to matrix)Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate a small regional team of engineers to meet operational targets
- Perform advanced RAN parameter configuration, performance analysis, and reporting
- Collect and analyze RF coverage and capacity data using drive test logs
- Conduct root cause analysis to identify performance bottlenecks and implement improvements
- Conduct multi-layer and concentric cell optimization across access technologies
- Manage L3 message data collection, decoding, and deep analysis using OEM tools
- Oversee and guide feature trials, assess performance impact, and support rollout teams
- Optimize frequency plans, neighbor lists, and perform interference analysis and mitigation
- Deliver expert-level support for KPI monitoring and performance trend analysis
- Generate and present comprehensive reports for both technical and customer stakeholders
- Recommend physical optimization actions (Tilt, Azimuth, Power, Height) to enhance SINR, RSRP, RSCP, Ec/No, and C/I
- Contribute to spectrum re-farming planning and execution
- Ensure optimal capacity management through proactive analysis and recommendations
- Execute other high-level RAN optimization tasks as required
- Strong leadership and coordination abilities
- Advanced understanding of GSM/UMTS/LTE/5G call flows and network architecture
- Proficiency in RAN OEM OSS/NMS platforms (Ericsson, Huawei, ZTE, Nokia)
- Expertise in KPI counter analysis and network performance improvement strategies
- Experience in advanced scripting and macro creation (e.g., Visual Basic)
- Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting tools
- GIS/MapInfo tools proficiency for spatial analysis
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills
- Wireshark and L3 log analysis tools (advantageous)
