- Act as an advisor to senior management in delivery of value-added services and solutions for engineering & maintenance.
- Manage the maintenance of the food processing factory, including refrigeration, ice making, trio skinning machines, compressors, and associated equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration faults across vessel and factory systems and implement effective corrective actions
- Develop, implement and monitor preventative maintenance schedules for fleet and factory assets
- Responsible for annual CapEx investment planning for the operational assets.
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, including SANS 10147, OHSA, SAMSA, HACCP, and NRCS requirements.
- Accountable for vessel drydock project management, in order to ensure that all fleet vessels are fully compliant with marine regulations.
- Serve as the appointed 1 responsible person for the factory in accordance with General Machinery Regulations.
- Lead, mentor and manage the maintenance team, including technical staff
- Manage the maintenance budget, monitor costs per cost centre, and implement cost-effective maintenance strategies.
- Plan and execute capital maintenance projects within budget and on schedule.
- Respond rapidly to equipment breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
- Coordinate with external contractors and service providers to ensure timely and quality repairs or installations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and reports for both vessels and factory equipment.
- National Diploma Engineering, preferably mechanical.
- BTech degree would be advantageous.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role, managing maintenance activities, planning, scheduling, contractor management, etc.
- Experience in a similar industry (food processing, marine, transportation, earth-moving equipment, etc.) would be advantageous for the candidate.
- Proficient in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining industrial and marine mechanical and electrical
- Understanding of vessel propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and marine safety systems.
- Working knowledge of ammonia refrigeration plants, ice makers, and cold storage
- Skilled in fault-finding, troubleshooting, and implementing long-term corrective actions.
- Understanding of regulatory standards including SANS 10147, SAMSA regulations, OHSA (including GMR2.1),HACCP and NRCS.
- Ability to interpret technical diagrams, manuals, and maintenance documentation.
- Familiarity with maintenance management software for scheduling, tracking, and reporting.
- Knowledge of parts inventory control, equipment lifecycle planning, and asset register
- Deep understanding of safety protocols, risk assessments, and safe working practices in industrial environments.
