
Site Manager (Commercial Construction) - Zambia

- Supervise and coordinate all on-site construction activities.
- Manage day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with drawings and project timelines.
- Monitor and manage subcontractors and labourers.
- Ensure workforce productivity and discipline.
- Develop work schedules and monitor progress.
- Liaise with suppliers for timely delivery of materials.
- Inspect workmanship and materials to ensure compliance with Zambian building codes and ZABS (Zambia Bureau of Standards) standards.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants for quality control.
- Enforce occupational health and safety standards in line with Zambian Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 36 of 2010.
- Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
- Assist the Quantity Surveyor with cost control.
- Prevent material wastage and track site expenses.
- Act as the liaison between the project team, local authorities, and the client.
- Attend site meetings and submit regular progress reports.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial construction (hotels, shopping malls, or mixed-use developments).
- Knowledge of local materials and suppliers.
- Fluent in English; local languages (e.g., Bemba, Nyanja) an added advantage.
- Strong negotiation and leadership skills.
- Proficient in interpreting structural and architectural drawings.
- Knowledge of Zambian planning approval processes (e.g., via the Local Planning Authority or the Zambia Environmental Management Agency - ZEMA).
- Familiar with construction software (MS Project, AutoCAD, and Excel).
- Understanding of local procurement practices and labour laws.
- Diploma or Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Building Science
- Health & Safety Certification
