Reporting to the Mechanical Engineer. The incumbent must ensure uninterrupted supply of steam to Paper Mills on a 24-hour basis. Ensure all boiler and auxiliary equipment are in good condition and running efficiently.KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the boiler house, including coal fired steam boilers, coal handling equipment and conveyors, ash handling equipment, feedwater systems, condensate return and water treatment.
- Supervise and coordinate a team of boiler operators.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage all coal deliveries to site to ensure coal bunker are kept at the correct level. Ensure the coal is off loaded and stored correctly. Record all coal deliveries.
- Manage ash removal from site.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all the Boiler House equipment and ensure timely repairs of boiler systems and auxiliary equipment.
- Ensure proper housekeeping is done in the Boiler MCC room, Control room, Boiler house and surrounding areas
- Report any equipment defects and create maintenance work orders in DMS
- Monitor boiler performance and operating parameters to ensure efficiency, reliability, and availability.
- Coordinate with production and maintenance teams to meet steam demands and minimize downtime.
- Manage chemical treatment programs for boiler and feedwater systems to maintain water quality and equipment integrity.
- Maintain accurate records and generate reports for inspections, incidents, maintenance and performance.
- Check and confirm that boiler operators are performing their duties
- Take any instruction given by the Engineering Management Team
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in energy efficiency, reliability, and safety within the boiler house.
- Grade 12, supported by a technical qualification
- Boiler Operating certification.
- Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in boiler plant operations, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of steam systems, water treatment, controls, and utility operations.
- Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) will be an advantage.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
