Job Description :A prestigious and established art gallery is seeking a Gallery Assistant to support the daily operations at their new location in Cape Town. This is a superb opportunity for someone with excellent customer service or sales experience, ideally within a creative or retail environment, who has a genuine interest in art.As a Gallery Assistant, you'll play a vital role in welcoming clients, maintaining the gallery’s appearance, supporting sales processes, and assisting with exhibitions and events. This is a client-facing position requiring professionalism, enthusiasm, and a high level of personal presentation.Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service & Sales SupportGreet and assist gallery visitors, offering information about artworks and artists.Support the sales team in handling sales enquiries and processing transactions.Assist with after-sales services such as packaging, framing coordination, and shipping.Help maintain a welcoming, professional, and client-focused atmosphere on the gallery floor.Gallery Presentation & OperationsEnsure the gallery is tidy, well-presented, and in line with brand aesthetics.Assist with daily opening and closing procedures.Help with inventory tracking and artwork handling.Ensure labels, signage, and displays are kept up to date and professionally presented.Exhibitions & EventsAssist with the preparation and setup of exhibitions and gallery openings.Help coordinate logistics for private views and promotional events.Provide on-the-day support during events to ensure a smooth experience for clients and artists.Marketing & AdministrationAssist with social media updates and basic marketing tasks (e.g. Instagram posts, newsletters).Support administrative tasks including data entry, artist records, and catalog updates.RequirementsPrevious experience in a client-facing retail or hospitality role (art or gallery experience is a plus)Genuine interest in contemporary art and designConfident communicator with excellent interpersonal skillsProfessional appearance and polished mannerOrganised, reliable, and proactiveComfortable working retail hours, including two Saturday mornings per monthWillingness to learn and grow within the roleKnowledge and experience using ArtLogic (preferable)Benefits
