The position is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training under the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) and the successful candidate will be subject to the terms and conditions of the programme whilst being a permanent staff member of the University of the Free State.   • Provide formal teaching of Human Geography and GIS modules for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Provide study leadership at postgraduate level.
  • Be actively involved in research.
  • Recruit postgraduate students.
  • Supervise and provide consultation sessions for postgraduate students.
  • Source external research funding and forge linkage with the industry.
  • Perform general administration duties as applicable at university level.
Inherent Job Requirements:
Lecturer
  • Master's degree in Geography or related discipline on NQF Level 9 passed with a minimum of 70% (please attach academic record).
  • Commitment to register for a doctoral degree in Geography at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment.
Recommendations:
  • A PhD degree on NQF Level 10 in Geography or closely related discipline.
  • Proven experience in presentation of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
