Diesel Mechanic - KimberleyWell established company in the meat industry, requires the services of a Diesel Mechanic to join their maintenance team (Abattoir).
The main purpose of this position is to take responsibility for the repair and maintenance of all Light Delivery, Service vehicles and Plant machines, i.e. Front-end loaders, Forklifts, Service trucks, Generators, etc. and related equipment according to sound practice and equipment specifications. Take ownership of the machines or vehicles to be maintained by them, advising the foreman on the current condition of vehicles and advising on best solutions for maintenance.Requirements:
  • Grade 12 certificate or relevant NQF level 4 qualification.
  • Recognized Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate.
  • Compliance with the company''s value system and code of ethics.
  • Ability to handle conflict and good interpersonal skills.
  • Candidates must be able to work independently, but also in a team.
  • Candidate must have good communication and leadership skills.
  • Valid drivers license.
Responsibilities: * Repair and maintenance of the trucks, bakkies and other vehicles
  • Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair of vehicles and machinery according to the maintenance requirements and attend to defects raised on pre-start reports, breakdown sheets and over-inspection reports.
  • Perform equipment over-inspection on work done by apprentices and operators where appropriate and provide feedback and guidance as required.
  • Provide relevant feedback to the Supervisor and co-workers regarding equipment performance and conditions and carry out scheduled and non-scheduled repairs as required.
  • Discuss work backlog and future work requirements with the Supervisor and plan corrective measures to rectify e.g. re-scheduling, prioritizing, labour assistance, etc. Identify spares requirements and order according to departmental procedure.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Perform inspections in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act regulations, and company standards. Report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Manager on a shift basis.
  • Must perform equipment over-inspection on work done by operators and provide feedback and guidance as required.
  • Administrative tasks such as completing worksheets and timesheets.
Salary:
Basic salary Based on experience plus Provident fund (7.5%); Performance bonus; skilled artisan allowance.
