My client has an opportunity available for a WORKSHOP FOREMAN. Kindly be advised that this is an INTERNAL OPPORTUNITY ONLY. Prior technical experience with Honda is a minimum. This purpose of the position is to provide effective technical and specialist support to staff, whilst ensuring a high quality of workmanship and service delivery to customers; supporting the Service Manager to operate an efficient, profitable service centre.
Position Overview
This purpose of the position is to provide effective technical and specialist support to staff, whilst ensuring a high quality of workmanship and service delivery to customers; supporting the Service Manager to operate an efficient, profitable service centre.
Specific Role Responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities: • Supervise workshop staff and oversee the teamwork between workshop and relevant administrative support staff. • Plan workshop production and capacity according to productive and available staff. • Attend to escalated workshop (technical) problems, assisting and guiding technicians with unresolved diagnostic issues. • Communicate with customers on technical matters and otherwise ensure that customers remain informed regarding repairs to their vehicles via the appropriate channels. • Evaluate repairs and assist in locating and ordering correct parts where necessary. • Test drive vehicles • Control the workshop productivity (i.e. hours worked/ hours sold), efficiency (i.e. flat rate time with actual time) and achievement of customer service level index objectives. • Control (WIP) work in progress on all vehicles in the workshop daily to maintain acceptable levels of productivity and service delivery. • Ensure compliance with OEM and business policies and processes, as well as adherence to relevant workshop operating procedures and practices. • Ensure workshop equipment, including specialized tools and equipment, is maintained and remains in a workable condition. • Monitor and communicate staff target achievements, and implement corrective action plans where necessary. • Manage training of all workshop staff. • Oversee the work and development of Apprentices. • Maintain good housekeeping within department. • Implement and monitor environmental, health and safety standards. • Work hand-in-hand with management to achieve industry leading standards of customer care, process efficiency and cost control.
Qualifications and Experience
Experience Required: • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in an automotive technical role. • A minimum of 3 years of relevant OEM motor dealership workshop experience. Minimum Qualification/s Required: • Senior Certificate (Grade 12) • Qualified Technician – essential • Recognised management certificate or diploma would be beneficial. Other Requirements: • Valid, unendorsed driver’s license • Computer literate: proficiently able to use MS Office and relevant DMS functions.
