As one of Microsoft's leading partners in the UK, specialising in Azure, Security, Dynamics 365, and Microsoft 365, we have a proven track record of success in delivering transformational IT services.Position Overview:Reporting to the Team Manager, the key deliverables of this role can be summarised as providing unparalleled service excellence to our base of over 800 clients across the UK.Responsibilities:
  • Monitoring database performance, conduct regular performance tuning, and optimize queries for maximum efficiency.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade database software and related tools.
  • Develop and implement database backup and recovery strategies to ensure data reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as database backups, index rebuilding, and statistics gathering.
  • Apply any coding recommendations and optimizations through change management.
  • Assist with data services integration activities, warehousing of data, reporting enhancements, data transformation activities, and other project-related work from time to time, for example instance-level upgrades, migrations.
  • Oversee change management activities for the team.
  • Provide support to junior staff members where required to maintain clients’ data estates.
Qualifications, Qualities & Experience:The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Formal IT qualification (Minimum DP-900) or bachelor’s degree in computer science,
  • Information Technology, Data sciences, or a related field.
  • Microsoft Azure SQL, Fabric (inclusive of Data Factory & Power BI) support knowledge required.
  • Strong knowledge of database management systems, such as Microsoft SQL Server, and
  • MySQL.
  • Experience with creation of Database schemas for warehousing of datasets.
  • Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries and optimizing database performance.
  • Develop and implement data security policies, procedures, and best practices to protect sensitive information.
  • Identify and resolve database performance issues, such as slow queries, inefficient indexing, or resource contention.
  • Conduct database capacity planning to anticipate future storage and performance needs.
  • Implement and maintain database monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of database systems, including schema, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of data migration processes, the ability to interpret SQL Data Migration Assistant reports to empower stakeholders to take informed decisions about IaaS to PaaS SQL Migration.
  • Proven capability to analyse user stories for reporting or analytics output.
  • Experience and knowledge of Synapse and its entire component stack would be advantageous.
Experience and knowledge in several of the technologies detailed below:
  • SQL On-premise deployments.
  • SQL Server – all supported versions including those in extended support.
  • All SQL Server features inclusive of Reporting Services, Analysis- and Integration services.
  • Deployment of IaaS services to facilitate hybrid data integration, for example On-premises data gateways and self-hosted integration runtimes Azure Data Services and other Azure SQL and Azure SQL Managed Instances.
  • Azure Data Factory Pipeline creation, enhancement, and being able to analyse and interpret already configured pipelines.
  • Power BI/Fabric service component support.
  • Backup configuration and restore processes of the above Azure based services.
  • Conceptual understanding of various role-relevant Azure services, for instance AAD/Entra ID, Subscriptions & Management Groups, Role Based Access Control (RBAC), NSG, Key Vault, with Automation, Storage and App Services being advantageous.
