
Head of Maintenance | Kalahari | Luxury Safari Destination

- Lead proactive, preventative, and reactive maintenance of all buildings, guest accommodations, staff quarters, and communal facilities.
- Oversee civil works and infrastructure upgrades using eco-sensitive construction principles.
- Ensure compliance with legal, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Manage servicing and functionality of reserve and hospitality vehicles (4x4s, tractors, game viewers, etc.).
- Oversee machinery, tools, water pumps, solar systems, generators, and boreholes.
- Supervise all power systems (solar PV, generators, battery banks).
- Manage water supply (boreholes, purification, storage) and waste systems (greywater recycling, sewage).
- Maintain HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, and IT infrastructure.
- Lead and develop the technical and maintenance team (plumbers, electricians, handymen, etc.).
- Ensure training, motivation, and high performance.
- Oversee routine schedules and emergency response protocols.
- Collaborate with conservation staff to minimize ecological footprint.
- Optimize energy and water efficiency across operations.
- Implement green building practices and track system performance.
- Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget.
- Oversee procurement aligned with sustainability goals.
- Monitor stock levels and manage assets effectively.
- Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety standards.
- Identify risks and implement preventative safety measures for staff, guests, and wildlife.
- Support talent development through partnerships with education providers.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical/electrical/civil engineering (or related).
- 7+ years in a senior engineering/maintenance role; hospitality background advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of sustainable technologies (solar, water filtration, off-grid utilities).
- Proven leadership and project management skills.
- Valid driver's license; willingness to live on-site in a remote environment.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in luxury safari lodge or eco-resort environments is an advantage.
- Familiarity with conservation-driven operations.
- Proactive, hands-on, and solution-oriented.
- Adaptable and resilient in remote or challenging settings.
