- Develop a discipline strategy and design criteria to suit the unique project/client requirements
- Adhere to the project program
- Ensure planning of activities are regularly monitored and updated to achieve project deliverables timeously. This includes the expediting of technical information through continual engineering input to external and internal stakeholders.
- Attend relevant project meetings and produce regular project status reports
- Generate post-project feedback
- Produce cost-effective and safe civil/structural designs
- Produce tender and project civil/structural designs. Compare and assess project vs tender scope
- Review alternatives and cost effectiveness
- Produce quantity and man-hour budgets and list associated with scope
- Work closely with-in scope, quantity budget and man-hour budget
- Understand project scope, quantity allowances and man-hour budget
- Monitor changes to scope and effects to quantity and man-hour budget and ensure authorization to changes and compliance with quantity allowances
- Verify civil/structural engineering software packages
- Be fully conversant with restrictions and qualifications of software
- Order of magnitude check of analysis results
- To maintain an effective record-keeping system for calculations, correspondence and technical information
- Indexing, records, design criteria and calculations
- Referencing to location of software input, numbers, dates and signatures.
- To interact efficiently with Drawing Office and other departmentsGuide and liaise with Drawing Office and provide engineering, safety and ergonomic input during conceptual layout phase and on-going assistance during engineering stage.
- Ongoing review of internal circulation drawings and timeous approval of final drawings for construction

- Approve all drawing issued for construction by signing, dating and including the engineer/technologist's professional registration number

- Provide suggestions for improving internal work methods and procedures and technological solutions on an ad-hoc basis, according to customer's needs
- Professionally, the successful candidate will be a B.Sc. / B.Eng. or B. Tech graduate and will be registered as a professional engineer or be in a position to register within 12 - 24 months of joining SGS Bateman.
- A proven track record of 5 to 25 years' experience executing projects in the EPC/EPCM environment; ideally within the mining and minerals (preferred) or petrochemical sector
- Project Management - Knowledge of basic project management methods and knowledge of all project life cycle phases
- Civil & Structural Design Criteria - Applications and improvements of technical knowledge into design criteria that suit project requirements. And/or support the design of new components/equipment
- Commercial Principles - Understanding of contract types and of their main features (basics, purchasing and selling conditions, partnerships, claims, logistic aspects etc.) including international contracts
- Technical Documentation - Ability to create, understand and communicate technical specifications
- Plant Layout development - Ability to layout the plant in a functional, safety, cost-effective way.
- Materials Fundamentals - Knowledge and understanding of basic information regarding materials and their properties used in engineering and manufacturing activities
- Construction & Commissioning - Understanding of on-site construction work such as commissioning or customers and suppliers' interactions
- Civil/ Structure Investigation - Ability to evaluate failures, preventative maintenance and assessment of existing structures
- Dynamics Structure - Knowledge of design technique of dynamic structure (including vibration)
- Cost Estimation - Understand cost of design (including cost of deliverables generation) and ability to estimate costs related to a project or specific activity
- Basic IT Tools - Office Automation and Graphic Software
- Procurement - Understand of project cost control, budgeting, procurement, purchase-to-pay and supply chain management
- Engineering Calculations - Knowledge of engineering calculation techniques
- Quality Engineering - Knowledge of quality methods, management systems and procedures and/or understanding of quality features of products and parts
- Quantity Estimation - Ability to estimate quantity for structures design (volumes, dimensions, masses, weights etc.) to better fit the technical specifications
- CAE Software - Familiarity and ability to use specific CAE software including setting up systems, procedures and guidelines e.g. PROKON and Strand7
- Legislation and Standards - Knowledge of sector specific law (e.g. Engineering safety requirements, Audit regulations, Insurance laws etc.) and knowledge standard specifications (e.g. Plant layout requirements etc.) including the ability to integrate these standards.
- Innovation & Adaptability - The ability to adapt to different environments (team, technologies, countries etc.) from a technical point of view, including ability to find out new possible technological solutions according to customer's needs.
