Job Specification:To develop and retain self-directed, motivated distance students by:
  • Welcoming all students to the distance learning journey
  • Building supportive relationships with students remotely
  • Advising student of how to study for success by distance modality
  • Reminding student of deadlines
  • Assisting student with academic administrative queries
  • Assisting students to develop effective study skills
  • Assisting students to avoid plagiarism and how to reference correctly
  • Assisting students with general assignment writing
  • Advising students in the optimal use of available academic & library resources and services
  • Directing students to other institutional resources when academic, attitudinal, attendance, or personal problems require professional intervention
  • Tutoring students in relation to their academic content challenges where possible or arranging with the student success supervisor for a potential subject tutor.
  • Accompany the student on their journey for start to completion through a “Sherpa” model of support.
  • Empower students to take responsibility for their own academic success.
  • Prepare, plan, and schedule advising and support sessions.
  • Provides educational guidance and assistance to students.
  • Provide information on academic curriculum and college policies and procedures using Programme Fact Sheets.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student educational records.
  • Refer students to specialist in-house e.g (counsellors, DATs) when the student’s problem requires specialist intervention.

  • Tutoring students in relation to their academic content challenges where possible or arranging with the brand Head of
Faculty or Student Success supervisor for a potential subject tutor.
  • Liaise and coordinate with tutors to ensure that students receive academic support.
  • Compile reports on weekly activities or when required to do so.
  • Maintain an up-to-date Student Success Advising Portfolio.
  • Report on process follow through and timelines kept
Requirements:1.A National. A degree will be advantageous
2.At least 1 year’s general or relevant experience in higher education.
3.An technical understanding of student engagement and support strategies
