Function Manager - Planning & Traffic Engineering - JhbFull job descriptionREPORTS TOFunctional General ManagerKEY RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop business strategies for the section in conjunction with SMEC business objectives and the overall national and company strategic objectivesMarketing within the region as well as focusing on key clients who have a national impactProactive approach in developing work or being aware of what projects are likely to come up from key clientsResponsible for the commercial overview of all functional group projects. This includes financial management, client liaison and contract administration of the selected projectsDevelop and maintain key client relationships in the sectorSubmission of Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and ProposalsResponsible for the overview of proposals submitted by the functional teamManage the functional overhead, proposal and marketing budgetsWin and deliver Gauteng based, National and Global Planning and Traffic Engineering projectsEnsure projects are completed on time and on budgetEnsure all resource processes are functioning within the team for each employee; timesheets are completed, data sheets produced, CV’s kept up to dateMonitor staff utilisation levels to ensure staff are fully utilisedEnsure projects are adequately resourced in terms of numbers and capabilitiesDevelop and maintain internal contacts within SMEC South Africa to source appropriate skillsDevelop and maintain training and mentoring systems for staff in Planning and Traffic Engineering. This includes but is not limited to:Keeping them informedProvide advice on suitable training and any opportunitiesPlanning career pathsMaintaining professional ethics and professional standards of conduct and behaviourDeveloping a training plan within the teamChallenging staff to ensure continued professional growthEnsure documentation, reporting and communication is appropriately achievedManage or be part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver project milestonesResponsible for assigning Project Directors and Project Managers on projects and monitoring their performanceWork with the Digital team and offer suggestions and advice on how the team can better service the Planning and Traffic Engineering teamWork directly with the Functional Head on issues of national utilisation, knowledge management and process control related to Planning and Traffic EngineeringUtilise and work with Chief Technical Principal (Planning and Traffic Engineering) where applicable in the regionCross sell other SMEC groups when opportunity arisesMentor and develop quality project management resources within the region’s businessMonthly reporting to managementKeep staff informed - regular group meetings and team updatesStrictly adhere to SMEC’s Management System (MS), quality standards and HSE proceduresQUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREDBachelor of Engineering degree, BTech or higher degree from accredited university/collegeMinimum 15 years of practical experience in the Planning and Traffic Engineering disciplineSound knowledge of Quality Assurance (QA)Ability to build teams and retain the efficcy of such teams for a full project durationAbility to market and develop relationshipsImplementation of sound principles in project management, risk management and financial managementAbility to coordinate multi-disciplinary input into opportunities and projectsWillingness and ability to work with Digitally based financial systems to extract and analyse group performance (BST)Knowledge of engineering design processes and solid background in transportation planning and traffic engineeringKnowledge of industry trends and advancesAbility to write effectively and furnish reports and to prepare business development materials including proposalsDemonstrated ability to successfully undertake and deliver client’s TORHands on experience in delivering within project based budgets and timelinesRecognised expertise in one or more specialists fields in the transportation planning and traffic engineering fieldsConsistently produces concept and feasibility solutions that clearly differentiate us from our competitors nationallyTechnical Reviewer on large or complex projectsInfluential member of relevant national industry committee would be beneficialFrequent presenter at National conferences; generates opportunities for othersKnown to large number of key national Clients and their “first choice” for adviceProven innovation on projects which is subsequently cascaded and built uponCoordination and development of innovation on a functional/national basisAble to drive technical input to bids and provide clear USPs in technological fieldAt Surbana Jurong, we put talent, hard work, teamwork and a fun workplace together to approach problems and solve them creatively and collaboratively.
