RequirementsQualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Labour Relations, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification or certifications in Labour Law/HR Management (advantageous).
Experience:
  • Minimum 58 years in a senior HR/IR role within a unionised environment.
  • Strong experience in disciplinary processes, CCMA representation, and union negotiations.
Key Responsibilities:Human Resources Management
  • Oversee the full employee life cycle: recruitment, onboarding, development, performance management, and offboarding.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies and policies aligned with the overall business plan.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on HR-related issues.
  • Drive employee engagement, wellness, and retention initiatives.
  • Ensure effective succession planning and talent management.
Industrial Relations (IR)
  • Act as the primary liaison between the company and trade unions/employee representatives.
  • Handle disciplinary procedures, grievances, and CCMA (or bargaining council) matters.
  • Lead wage negotiations and union consultations.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and collective agreements.
  • Minimize labor disputes and maintain a stable IR climate.
Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant labor laws, health & safety legislation, and HR policies.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential HR records and reports.
  • Conduct internal HR audits and manage external inspections (e.g., Department of Labour, SETA).
Training & Development
  • Assess training needs and coordinate internal and external training programs.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of training interventions.
Performance Management
  • Oversee the performance review process and ensure fairness and consistency.
  • Coach managers on managing poor performance and employee conduct.
Reporting & Analytics
  • Generate HR reports on metrics such as turnover, absenteeism, headcount, and disciplinary trends.
  • Use data to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Monthly presentations in management meetings
Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of labor legislation (BCEA, LRA, EE Act, Skills Development Act).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong conflict resolution and negotiation abilities.
  • High levels of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and MS Office, must have intermediate to advanced working experience in Excel
