Work Location: Fourways, JohannesburgDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Coordination and Planning:
- Plan and coordinate the most efficient means of transport for goods, considering the type of goods, cost, transit time, and security.
- Arrange the necessary carriage of goods by road, rail, sea, or air.
- Prepare and process necessary documentation for shipping and receiving goods, including contracts, bills of lading, and bank documents like letters of credit.
- Ensure compliance with national and international trade laws, as well as regulations governing the transport of goods, including hazardous materials.
- Act as a liaison between shippers, carriers, and customs officials.
- Monitor customs documentation to facilitate the smooth clearance of goods through customs.
- Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and shipping companies to ensure that all parties are informed of the transportation plans and schedules.
- Provide clients with updates and reports on the status of their shipments.
- Assess potential risks associated with the transportation of goods and advise clients on insurance matters.
- Arrange appropriate insurance coverage for goods during transit.
- Negotiate with carriers, warehouses, and other service providers to obtain the best possible rates and service levels.
- Monitors the quality of service provided, ensuring that all services are carried out in line with agreed contracts and client expectations.
- Maintain detailed and organized records of all transactions, correspondences, and documentation pertaining to the shipping and receiving of goods.
- Strong understanding of international trade laws and regulations, as well as transportation modes and logistics.
- Excellent organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in the use of logistics and customs software.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively across different levels of an organization.
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is often required.
- Professional certification in freight forwarding or customs brokerage is highly desirable.
- Compensation will be determined based on qualifications, applicable experience, and previous earnings.
