Nursing Night Supervisor

• Effective role model leadership according to the standards of the hospital
• Take hand over from day person in charge at 18h45.
• Take receipt of communication documents and keys from Professional Nurse in charge.
• Check against roster if all members are on duty i.e. nursing personnel, general staff.
• Ensure active participation in the Occupational Health and Safety programme.
• Issue medication to departments as required and records dispensing in Pharmacy register.
• Call out Pharmacist when necessary.
• Call theatre staff out promptly.
• If an emergency is admitted (Surgical) and surgery is possible – put theatre staff on alert.
• Extra emergency equipment e.g. Ventilators, phototherapy, pulse oximeters, etc., if required phone, obtain promptly.

• Liase with security/driver on duty to take specimens and collect blood promptly.
• Utilise night personnel’s expertise to give in –house training e.g. ICU, paeds, etc.
• Keep register of all teaching activities during the night, thus maintaining a high standard of competency.
• Liaise with Nursing Services Manager/Deputy Nursing Services Manager for any specific needs for education programme.
• Introduce, orientate new members of staff to their duties.
