A major player in the chrome and PGM mining sector is seeking an experienced Metallurgical Manager to lead the metallurgical operations of a high-impact mining project. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, managing, and optimising all metallurgical processes to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable production, while aligning with environmental and regulatory frameworks.Key Responsibilities: Oversee all metallurgical operations from ore reception to product dispatch, ensuring quality, efficiency, and recovery targets are consistently met. Develop, implement, and optimise metallurgical processes for chrome beneficiation and potential PGM recovery. Manage laboratory functions, metallurgical accounting, sampling, and assay accuracy. Lead metallurgical test work, pilot plant trials, and process improvement initiatives. Collaborate with mining, geology, maintenance, and production teams to improve ore blending, plant throughput, and product quality. Ensure adherence to safety, health, environmental, and quality standards. Manage plant commissioning, ramp-up, and scale-up of operations. Mentor and develop metallurgical and technical teams. Interface with regulatory bodies to ensure full compliance with metallurgical-related legislation and reporting. Prepare and manage metallurgical budgets, forecasts, and operational reports for senior management.
Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or Mineral Processing. At least 10 years experience in mineral processing, with 5+ years at management level, preferably in chrome, ferrochrome, or PGM environments. Proven track record in managing complex metallurgical operations, including plant commissioning and optimisation. Deep knowledge of smelting, flotation, gravity separation, and tailings management. Familiarity with South African mining and metallurgical regulatory frameworks. Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities. Proficient in metallurgical software tools and reporting systems. Advantageous: Experience with community projects, BEE compliance, and sustainable mining practices. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. High attention to detail, safety, and quality standards. Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams under dynamic conditions.
