This is a senior commercial appointment for someone who thrives on building - building business, building relationships, and building momentum. The company is looking for a sharp, energetic Head of Business Development who combines strong sales ability with a real understanding of the energy space and a track record of closing complex, high-value deals.The role involves originating and structuring energy projects, engaging directly with C-level clients, and helping to scale a high-performance BD function. It's both strategic and hands-on - ideal for someone who gets energy from driving results and wants to play a key role in a fast-growing team.Key Responsibilities
- Identify, originate, and lead high-impact energy projects across the region
- Build strong commercial relationships with clients in mining, property, agri, and industrial sectors
- Develop tailored energy-as-a-service solutions and negotiate long-term contracts
- Work alongside internal technical and financial teams to shape bankable project structures
- Maintain and grow a robust deal pipeline
- Contribute to the overall commercial strategy and help lead future BD hires
- Demonstrated passion for building businesses and making deals happen
- High energy, self-driven, and results-oriented
- Strong sales skills with a commercial instinct for closing complex energy projects
- Deep understanding of the Southern African energy landscape (especially embedded generation and IPP models)
- 10-15+ years in senior commercial/BD roles within energy, utilities, or infrastructure
- No-fluff operator - clear communicator, comfortable in a performance-focused environment
- Experience working with or alongside private equity-backed or growth-stage companies is a plus
