OVERVIEWA well-established citrus and mango farming operation in Limpopo is seeking a dynamic and experienced Packhouse Manager to oversee operations at its citrus packhouse located in the Hoedspruit area. The successful candidate will take full responsibility for the general management, logistics functions, productivity and budget management, ensuring efficient, high-quality output aligned with international export standards.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESAs Packhouse Manager, you will lead all aspects of packhouse operations, including:
  • Production Oversight: Manage fruit packing lines, cold storage, and operational systems to ensure optimal throughput and minimal waste.
  • Quality and Food Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to food safety protocols and quality assurance standards.
  • Staff Leadership: Plan and manage staffing requirements, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Planning & Budgeting: Develop and implement packaging schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Logistics & Administration: Oversee logistics coordination and maintain accurate records using systems such as PALTRACK and labour productivity programmes for weekly feedback.
  • Performance Monitoring: Focus on pack-out percentages and continuous improvement of operational efficiency.
REQUIREMENTSMatric (Grade 12) with a relevant tertiary qualification in agriculture, logistics, or production management.
  • Minimum of 12 years' experience in citrus packaging or a similar agricultural production environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and administrative skills.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, including long and irregular hours typical of the citrus industry.
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Good background and or experience with regards to citrus marketing, understanding international relations and timing issues.
