Murray & Roberts Cementation invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Shaft Nipper to be placed in Venetia Musina. The successful candidate will report to the Lead Shaftman. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.Job descriptionThe successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
  • Safe reception/despatch of employees/equipment/material to the shaft bottom
  • Effective risk management and compliance with legislative, Cementaion Africa and client requirements
  • Cost containment
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Competent, motivated and positive team
  • Effective self-management alignment with Cementation Africa values and leadership initiatives
  • Compliance with SHEQ, Cementation Africa and client standards, policies and procedures
Minimum requirementsSuitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
  • Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
  • Onsetter's certificate
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Good communication skill in English
  • Medically fit to work underground
  • Height tolerance - ability to work at heights
  • Heat tolerance - physical and physiological tolerance of extreme temperature fluctuations
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
  • At least two years experience in Shaft Sinking.
  • Basic knowledge of underground mining operations
  • Strong team player
  • Knowledge of typical underground mining supplies and deliverables advantageous
