Read more about the life in PayU hereTo support the company’s growth plans in their cross-border, global merchants and partnership business, PayU is looking for a legal counsel with preferably a strong background in payments and/or finance. The role will be a global role based in Cape Town, South Africa. As Corporate Legal Counsel, you will provide corporate legal support to the PayU group worldwide.RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACTIVITIESLead legal counsel for the negotiation of global merchant, cross border and partnership initiativesLead legal counsel for negotiation and review of global IT and other vendor agreementsOwn key template agreements used to commercialise the global merchant and cross border businessWork with regional PayU legal and compliance members on cross border and global merchant transactionsSupport corporate actions initiated by finance and/or tax departmentSupervise corporate secretarial functionReport into PayU GPO General Counsel.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE3-5 years’ experience including formal qualification as a commercial/corporate lawyer and at least 2 years completed with a reputable law firmExcellent knowledge of contracts law is a requirementExperience in a fintech or financial institutionKnowledge concerning payments methods such as credit cards, debit cards, direct debit, e-money and other alternative payment methods desired, but not essentialExperience in running complex and difficult legal negotiationsCorporate experience desired, but not essentialComfortable and proficient working in a predominantly English language environment, high standard of written communication and drafting in English.BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIESCommitment to providing high quality legal support, service-minded attitude, able to build relationships with internal stakeholders and clients across different levels and disciplinesInternationally minded, open attitude, enthusiastic and pro-active, results-orientedComfortable working independently (with support where needed), interest in taking on new challenges and learning opportunities, developing oneselfComfortable working in a fast-moving environment with performance-based cultureGood business sense and judgment, ability to think creatively, contributor to team and enjoyable working environment.About usAt PayU, we are a global fintech investor and our vision is to build a world without financial borders where everyone can prosper.
