Key Accounts Manager – Public Sector Utilities(Meters)

Location: Johannesburg - SandtonPurpose of the Position
Manage and grow strategic relationships with key public sector clients, including national state-owned water and electricity transmission and distribution companies, as well as metropolitan municipalities across South Africa. This role involves both developing existing accounts and pursuing new high-value customers to ensure long-term client satisfaction and sustainable revenue growth.Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement account strategies for key public sector customers.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of client operations, challenges, and strategic objectives.
  • Engage consistently with client stakeholders at all levels to ensure alignment.
  • Identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling within existing accounts.
  • Actively pursue new key accounts in the public utilities sector.
  • Lead negotiations and close high-value deals with key public sector clients.
  • Build and nurture long-term relationships with decision-makers at all organisational levels.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key accounts, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and retention.
  • Represent the organisation in client meetings, industry forums, and strategic discussions.
  • Develop account plans, revenue forecasts, and growth targets.
  • Monitor account performance and provide regular updates to senior management.
  • Analyse client feedback and market trends to inform strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Solutions, Operations, and Finance) to ensure effective delivery of tailored solutions.
  • Provide input to product development teams based on client needs and feedback.
  • Support the rollout of new products and services within key accounts.
Qualifications and Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Business Administration, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in key account management, business development, or strategic sales within the public utilities sector.
  • Proven success in managing large public sector accounts and securing new business.
  • Strong understanding of public sector procurement and regulatory frameworks.

  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen.
  • Skilled in negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficient in CRM tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis.
  • Willingness to travel nationally and meet clients on-site.
