
JUNIOR DESIGN ENGINEER

- Lead the design and drafting of detailed 2D and 3D pump-related drawings using Autodesk Packages.
- Make informed technical decisions on design specifications and drawing revisions in collaboration with the sales, quality and production teams.
- Approve and amend machining and fabrication drawings to meet design intent and manufacturing standards.
- Oversee drawing office processes including revision control, transmittals, and archiving.
- Mentor and guide the draughtsman and ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Finalize general and sectional arrangement drawings for job files and client submissions.
- Conduct dimensional and design compliance checks on pumps and pump components.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical queries and implement design changes.
- Maintain a well-structured manual and digital drawing file system to ensure traceability and accessibility.
- Support engineering change requests and ensure timely implementation into production workflows.
- Develop and improve on existing products
- Perform engineering calculations including but not limited to: Load analysis, material stress, fluid dynamics, Centre of gravity, bearing selection, and general design calculation.
- Familiar with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- Comply with all the design requirements according to customer specifications, industry and engineering standards.
- Able to interpret engineering drawings, assist machine-shops and fabricators with machine-setup & interpretation of drawings
- Responsible for the accurate creation, maintenance, and validation of Bills of Materials used in manufacturing and procurement processes
- Degree, Diploma or higher qualification in Drafting Design or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a draughting or mechanical design role.
- Proficient in Autodesk Packages, drawing management systems (Vault experience is advantageous), and 3D scanning.
- Strong understanding of mechanical manufacturing processes and engineering principles
- Experience with ERP systems and integrating design information with production data.
- Proven ability to interpret and revise mechanical drawings, machining specs, and complex assemblies.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills to manage drawing office workflows.
- High attention to detail, quality control focus, and the ability to work independently under pressure.
- Effective communication and leadership skills with a proactive and solution-driven mindset.
- Technical Expertise Required
- Strong grasp of dimensional tolerances and fits of rotating parts, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, machining
- standards, and fastener/bearing specifications.
- Proficiency in using precision measurement tools: verniers, calipers, micrometres, etc.
- Understanding of pump set alignment, datum referencing, and centreline accuracy.
- Ability to identify and implement improvements in design for manufacturability and cost-efficiency.
- Foundry knowledge on patterns
- Ability to provide advice and make decisions on material selections based on corrosion resistance and mechanical
- properties
- Knowledge on machine shop equipment and capabilities
