- Leads the design, execution, and governance of total rewards, including remuneration, incentives, benefits, payroll, job evaluation, and workforce cost planning.
- Ensures reward strategy aligns with business objectives, talent retention, ESG imperatives, and shareholder value.
- Develops and implements the Group Total Rewards Strategy, partnering with the Remuneration Committee on executive pay and long-term incentives.
- Ensures compliance with JSE Listings Requirements, King IV, tax, and employment laws.
- Leads the design and annual review of executive compensation, benchmarking against comparators and driving performance-linked models.
- Designs and implements annual incentive schemes, linking them to financial and operational KPIs.
- Oversees the optimization of employee benefits for cost-effectiveness and value, ensuring compliance and relevance.
- Provides strategic oversight of the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring accuracy, risk controls, and compliance.
- Drives payroll process improvement, digitisation, and automation.
- Manages the Group-wide job evaluation framework, ensuring consistency and internal equity.
- Leads the integration of reward with workforce planning, labour cost modelling, and productivity optimization.
- Prepares board-level reports and analytics for relevant committees, including the annual Remuneration Report.
- Builds and leads a high-performance Reward and Payroll Centre of Excellence, promoting reward education and transparency.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, HR, Business Admin, or related field (essential).
- 10+ years senior HR/Reward leadership experience, with 5+ years in an executive/head-of-function role.
- Proven experience managing payroll and remuneration in listed, unionised, large-scale operations.
- Demonstrated track record in executive reward design, RemCo reporting, and total reward governance.
- Experience leading job evaluation frameworks and workforce planning in complex environments.
- Success in leading reward design in complex, unionised, and geographically dispersed businesses (preferably FMCG/manufacturing).
- Track record implementing long-term incentives and reward technology platforms.
- Payroll-related certifications (e.g., SAGE, SAP Payroll) beneficial.
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) certification.
- Certification in data analysis or statistics advantageous.
- Registered member of the South African Reward Association (SARA).
- Deep expertise in reward strategy, governance, and compliance in a listed environment.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, tax frameworks, and financial controls.
- Advanced Excel/modelling, HRIS/reward systems (SAP, SuccessFactors, SAGE, Oracle).
