Are you a seasoned Commercial Underwriter ready to take the next step in your career? Our client, a well-established insurance firm in Durban, is seeking a detail-oriented and compliance-driven professional to join their team. If you have strong commercial underwriting experience and thrive in a fast-paced environment, this role could be your perfect fit. Key Responsibilities:
  • Activate new business on internal systems once insurer or binder manager approval is received.
  • Ensure all required compliance documentation is on file. Missing documents must be diarised and referred to the Head of Technical Underwriting.
  • Distribute new business documentation to clients within 31 days of policy inception. This includes the policy schedule, policy wording, disclosure notice, and signed compliance documents.
  • Send renewal listings to brokers 3 months in advance of policy expiry.
  • Prepare and request renewal terms from insurers at least 60 days before renewal.
  • Ensure updated renewal documents are sent to clients 31 days before the renewal date, including all required documentation and policy updates.
  • Confirm debit order arrangements with clients prior to policy renewal dates.
  • Schedule broker renewal meetings 60 days in advance in their Flexi diaries.
  • Confirm that Letters of Appointment and Debit Order Authorisations are current and on file.
  • Complete policy amendments within 3 days of request or before system close-off, whichever is sooner.
  • Acknowledge amendment instructions from clients on the same day they are received.
Requirements:
  • RE5 Certificate
  • NQF Level 4 qualification in Short-Term Insurance
  • At least 5 years' experience in commercial underwriting

  • In-depth knowledge of insurance regulations and underwriting procedures
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Proficiency in interpreting underwriting guidelines and regulatory standards
