- Develop and implement the organization's financial strategy and long-term financial planning
- Provide financial insights and guidance to the executive team and the board of directors
- Assess the financial health of the organization and recommend actions for improvement
- Develop and implement financial strategies to support the companies objectives
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations
- Provide accurate and timely financial reports to internal and external stakeholders
- Manage the budgeting process, working with department heads to set financial targets and monitor performance against budgets
- Create financial forecasts and scenarios to support decision-making and resource allocation
- Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the organization's liquidity needs are met
- Implement effective cash management strategies, including optimizing working capital
- Identify and assess financial risks, such as market volatility, credit risk, and operational risk.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies to protect the organization from financial threats
- Evaluate investment opportunities and capital allocation decisions
- Optimize the organization's capital structure and manage debt and equity financing
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and minimize tax liabilities
- Work with tax professionals to develop tax-efficient strategies
- Establish and maintain strong internal financial controls to safeguard the organization's assets
- Develop and enforce financial policies and procedures
- Conduct financial analysis, including cost-benefit analysis and financial modelling, to support strategic decision-making
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as auditors, regulators, investors, and financial institutions
- Build and maintain relationships with key financial partners
- Manage and mentor the finance team
- Provide leadership and direction to the finance department
- Ensure compliance with all financial and legal requirements, including regulatory filings and reporting
- Implement and oversee financial management systems and technology to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial operations
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field (Master's degree or professional certification is a plus)
- Proven experience in financial management, preferably in an export or international trade environment
- Strong understanding of international trade and foreign exchange
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good experience in managing a finance team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of the Syspro accounting package is essential
- Ability to make tough decisions
