CORE PURPOSE OF JOBTo facilitate teaching and learning in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at undergraduate and postgraduate level, to contribute to the administration of the department as needed, and to undertake research.KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Develop course material for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching modules.
  • Attract external funding and provide research supervision to postgraduate students.
  • Provide expertise in Functional Analysis, Abstract Algebra or Discreet Mathematics
  • Perform teaching-related and departmental administrative duties.
  • Conduct research and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Interact with relevant industry groups, government departments and independent research institutes (where applicable) to further the goals of the Department and of the University.
  • Provide some academic leadership.
CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Demonstrated abilities to teach undergraduate students and supervise postgraduate students.
  • Proven research and publication record.
  • NRF-rated or evidence that an application is likely to be successful within three years of appointment.
  • A proven record of attracting external funding for research.
  • Ability to work with and contribute to a team effort.
  • Proven record or potential for providing some academic leadership.
REQUIREMENTSSenior Lecturer
  • Minimum qualification is a Ph.D. degree relevant to the field of Mathematics.
  • Evidence of successful teaching at all levels and throughput.
  • Minimum of 1-5 years relevant working experience, including lecturing experience.
  • Evidence of research publications in national accredited conferences and/or DHET accredited journals in related fields.
Associate Professor
  • Minimum qualification is a Ph.D. degree relevant to the field of Mathematics.
  • Minimum of 3-7 years relevant working experience, with an academic related profile. This includes lecturing experience at all levels.
  • Evidence of successful postgraduate supervision and throughput.
  • Evidence of participating and or leading in a research team or project.
  • Evidence of research publications in some national and international accredited conferences and/or DHET accredited journals in related fields.
  • Evidence of leadership ability.
  • A comprehensive CV must accompany the application, together with a letter motivating why the candidate should be considered for the post.
  • Candidates may be required to deliver a short lecture on an approved topic.
  • Commencement of Duties 1 January 2025
