Division: Water Infrastructure, GqeberhaREPORTS TO Section ManagerKEY RESPONSIBILITIESThe RE will be responsible for the following elements of the construction works under his/her responsibility:Contract Administration acting as Resident Engineer for this project.Reviewing the construction drawings and managing the processes of dealing with Contractor queries by liaising with the designers through the required communication lines.Inspection of the works and test results for quality control.Preparing and updating estimates to completion.Maintaining records of site administration and communication in terms SMEC’s quality management system and Construction Manual.Attending and contributing to taking minutes at technical and site meetings.Maintaining monthly progress reports.Liaison with clients and contractors and Managing resources for site supervision.Monitoring of quality of works.Monitoring of programme and contract budgets.Assist with handling claims.Preparation of variation orders.Supervise junior staff (Assistant Resident Engineer);Closing out projects including compiling completion/closeout reports; and Monitoring of Environmental Management ProgramsRECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEThe Resident Engineer shall hold as a minimum a BSc, BEng or BTech (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering with at least 10 years’ experience in construction projects of which at least 5 years have been spent as a Resident Engineer.Experience with reinforced concrete, water retaining structures will be advantageous.The Resident Engineer should be professionally registered with ECSAThe Resident Engineer should have extensive experience in the use and interpretation of major conditions of contract and in managing contractual issues.
