Our client is looking for a Plant Engineer. The Plant Engineer will use engineering knowledge and skill to continuously optimize the operations within the manufacturing facility. The role will be responsible for designing and implementing all modifications as well as engineering management of new installations. The role will be based in Cape Town at the companys food manufacturing facility.Responsibilities:Improve plant output, by analysing machine performance and identifying bottlenecks.Create a roadmap for increasing the plant output, by evaluating data and developing an investment strategy.Optimise the material process flow by challenging existing flow methodologies.Creatively introduce and drive the automation strategy using latest technologies and insights in the field of autonomous operation.Create plans to help minimize waste in the process by utilizing lean processes, metrics, cost saving initiatives and implementing best practices.Manage capital projects for the site to ensure that they are executed within schedule and cost.Champion the existing change management process for the site.Collaborate with QA, Production and Maintenance to ensure that safety and integrity of the product and personnel is optimised.Keep stakeholders updated of all initiatives by creating effective progress reports, and report directly to the Exec Team on strategic and key projects and initiatives.Key Skills:Proficiency in understanding and applying engineering principles relevant to manufacturing processes. This includes knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering.Ability to identify inefficiencies and develop solutions to enhance productivity and reduce waste. Familiarity with methodologies like Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Total Quality Management can be beneficial.Capability to quickly identify problems, analyze underlying causes, and implement practical solutions, especially in high-pressure situations.Knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices, including risk assessment and the implementation of safety procedures.Familiarity with modern automation and control systems such as PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.Knowledge of and commitment to sustainable practices and understanding of environmental regulations relevant to the manufacturing sector.Qualifications:BSc Mech Engineer with min 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment. Food Industry will be advantageous but not a pre-requisite.Experience in material handling and packaging is required.Demonstrated experience in plant and equipment optimisation, as well as selection, installation and commissioning of new equipment.
