  • The Health and Safety Manager will be expected to undertake regular Occupational Health, Safety and Environment compliance site assessments, inspection, and audits within a legislative framework; conduct SHE meetings to monitor compliance and corrective actions.
  • Complete task assessments, risk assessments and major incidents investigations, identify and eliminate safety hazards and determine mitigation measures needed for SHE interventions
  • Make recommendations on relevant training and awareness campaigns to support Health and Safety.
  • Develop safe work procedures and performance reports and engage with operations around the implementation of recommendations, identify occupational health and safety interventions to address compliance shortcomings, Analyses quarterly self-assessment reports and recommend required intervention; Promote health and safety through competency checks, health and safety programmes and training; perform ad hoc duties as instructed by the relevant supervisor.
  • Develop or improve Health and Safety procedures in the workplace
  • Adhere to environmental waste management requirements
  • Ensure that relevant Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) systems are developed and/or implemented and/or improved as per required standards
  • Assist the organisation with readiness for external audits
  • Contractor safety management
  • Ensure IODs are recorded accordingly, investigated and solutions are implemented to avoid reoccurrence
  • Ensure all employee medicals are up to date
  • Ensure all relevant organisation and/or SHEQ related licenses are renewed and/or up to date
  • Establish and ensure the functioning of a Health and Safety Committee as required by the OHS Act
  • SHEQ Reporting and Administration as and when required
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics
  • Health and Safety Management related qualification
  • Preferred NEBOSH, SAMTRAC and/or other equivalent certificates
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • 3+ years experience in a SHE Manager or OHS Manager role in the Chemical and/or Manufacturing industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSH Act, ISO 18000, 45001 and 14000. Specialist knowledge and practical application of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act essential
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
  • Ability to take accountability and lead by example
  • Identifying problems and implement preventative strategies to minimize risk.
  • Be knowledgeable of health and safety regulations
  • Ability to manage a variety of cross-functional team members
  • The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Excellent organisational and follow-up skills
  • Competent in problem solving, planning and decision making
  • Ability to coach and motivate employees
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Attention to detail.
