CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
The purpose of the post is to facilitate and administer the learning process for students in theoretical and practical modules as presented by the Nelson Mandela University Nursing Science Department at under- and post-graduate level, to participate in research, to contribute to the academic and community engagement as well as being involved in the core functions of the University. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
1. Facilitate effective teaching and learning at undergraduate and post graduate level.
2. Successful research supervision of postgraduate students, specifically doctoral candidates
3. Be able to perform independent research and publish in peer review journals.
4. Leads collaborative research projects with disciplines within and external to the university.
5. Evidence of being able to secure research funding and third-stream income.
6. Establish a national reputation in own field of expertise through collaboration, consultation and involvement in policy processes or projects.
7. Provide leadership within the institution, nationally and internationally through consultancy, policy development or project involvement.
8. Provide leadership in academic administration as well as mentoring of novice researchers in the nursing department CORE COMPETENCIES
1. Extensive experience at facilitating learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
2. In-depth knowledge of research theory and applications in nursing
3. Contribute to the creation of knowledge by virtue of published research and successfully supervising masters and doctoral candidates, involvement in relevant engagement/consulting activities and/or other scholarly outputs.
4. Proven publication record (national and international)
5. A proven record of accessing and obtaining research funding.
6. A proven record of academic leadership and management
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirements and skills
A PhD in Nursing or equivalent
Registration with SANC as a registered nurse.
Registration with SANC as a Nurse Educator.
5 years teaching experience in a learning, teaching, and research environment.
Proven record of research portfolio, including successful postgraduate supervision including doctoral supervision
Proven record of accepted peer-reviewed publications
Proven leadership abilities
Being an NRF rated researcher will be advantageous. Registration with SANC as an assessor and moderatorNelson Mandela University reserves the right not to make an appointment.
