The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive Faculty dedicated to teaching and research, as well as to overall student development. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the development of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.The Department of Medical Biosciences is comprised of the three inter-related disciplines of Physiology, Anatomy and Medical Microbiology, housed within the Faculty of Natural Science. The Department offers service courses to the Faculties of Dentistry, Community and Health Sciences and in the School of Pharmacy at the undergraduate level and across Faculties at the postgraduate level.The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:
  • Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Conduct research and publish on a regular basis.
  • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision.
  • Provide academic leadership and administration.
  • Undertake curriculum development and assessment.
  • Participate in community engagement and outreach
  • Be available to assist students from different educational backgrounds.
  • Play a role in the administrative activities of the Medical Biosciences Department and Faculty.
  • Fulfil any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
Minimum Requirements
  • MSc qualification in Human Physiology or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching, to competently teach the course content in the field of Human Physiology.
  • Clear demonstration of the ability, or knowledge of key steps, to conduct research.
  • Be able to teach specific Human Physiology content across the various modules of MBS.
Required competencies:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Adaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environment.
  • Student focused approach.
  • Planning and organising skills.
  • Computer literacy and e-learning skills.
  • Technical professional knowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship, community engagement as well as professional leadership.
Added advantage and preferences:
  • Clear evidence that the candidate will complete her/his PhD within 4 years of appointment will be an advantage.
