Minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
  • Computer Literate: MS Office Suite, Auto CAD, Solid works.

Key duties and responsibilities:
  • Compliance with South African Standards: Ensuring that steel structures adhere to relevant South African standards and codes, such as the South African National Standard (SANS) codes, specifically SANS 10162-1 for the structural use of steel.
  • Structural Design: Designing steel structures for various applications, while considering factors such as load requirements, environmental conditions, and seismic considerations specific to South Africa.
  • Material Selection: Selecting appropriate grades and types of steel for structural elements based on local availability, cost-effectiveness, and performance requirements, while adhering to relevant material standards and specifications.
  • Conceptualization and Planning: Collaborating with architects, clients, and other stakeholders to develop conceptual designs and plans for steel structures, taking into account local building regulations, client preferences, and project objectives.
  • Modelling and Drafting: Utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed 2D and 3D models of steel structures, and generating accurate engineering drawings, plans, and specifications in accordance with South African design practices and drafting standards.
  • Structural Analysis: Performing structural analysis and simulations using appropriate software tools to assess the behaviour, strength, and stability of steel components under various loading conditions, including wind, snow, and seismic loads relevant to South Africa.
  • Value Engineering: Optimising designs to achieve cost savings, material efficiency, and constructability while ensuring compliance with local regulations and performance requirements.
  • Quality Assurance and Control: Implementing quality assurance processes to verify the accuracy and integrity of design documents and conducting quality control checks during fabrication and construction to ensure compliance with design specifications and local standards.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborating with other design disciplines, construction professionals, and regulatory authorities to coordinate the design and implementation of steel structures within the broader context of construction projects.
  • Construction Support: Providing technical support during the construction phase, including responding to queries from contractors, reviewing shop drawings, and conducting site visits to ensure that steel structures are constructed in accordance with design specifications and local regulations.
  • Continuing Professional Development: Staying updated on developments in steel design technology, local regulations, and industry best practices through ongoing training, professional development activities, and participation in relevant conferences or seminars.
  • Design Engineers: Specializing in steel contribute to the successful planning, design, and implementation of steel structures, ensuring they are safe, efficient, and compliant with local standards and regulations.
Sales Aspects:
  • Prospecting: Identifying and researching potential leads or prospects who may be interested in the products or services offered by the company.
  • Lead Generation: Generating leads through various methods such as cold calling, networking, email marketing, social media outreach, and attending industry events or trade shows.
  • Qualifying Leads: Assessing the suitability and potential value of leads based on factors such as budget, authority, need, and timeline (BANT criteria) to prioritize sales efforts effectively.
  • Building Relationships: Establishing and nurturing relationships with prospects and existing customers through regular communication, follow-ups, and personalized interactions.
  • Consultative Selling: Understanding customer needs, pain points, and objectives, and offering tailored solutions or recommendations that address their specific challenges and add value.
  • Product Demonstrations: Conducting product demonstrations or presentations to showcase the features, benefits, and value proposition of the company’s products or services.
  • Handling Objections: Addressing objections or concerns raised by prospects and providing persuasive responses or solutions to overcome objections and move the sales process forward.
  • Negotiation: Negotiating terms, pricing, and contracts with prospects to reach mutually beneficial agreements that meet both the customer’s needs and the company’s sales objectives.
  • Closing Deals: Successfully closing sales by obtaining purchase orders, contracts, or agreements from prospects and ensuring smooth transitions to the fulfillment or delivery stage.
  • Post-Sale Follow-up: Following up with customers after the sale to ensure satisfaction, address any issues or concerns, and encourage repeat business or referrals.
  • Sales Reporting: Tracking sales activities, pipeline progress, and key performance metrics using CRM software or sales tracking tools, and providing regular reports and updates to management.
  • Market Intelligence: Gathering market intelligence, competitive insights, and customer feedback to inform sales strategies, identify opportunities, and stay ahead of market trends.
  • Collaboration: Collaborating with internal teams such as marketing, product development, customer support, and operations to align sales efforts with overall business objectives and deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Continuous Learning: Staying updated on industry trends, sales techniques, product knowledge, and competitive landscape through ongoing training, professional development, and networking.
