With 60GW of energy required within a decade, there is much to do in South Africa, and as much opportunity associated with it.Discovery Green procures renewable energy en masse (a single build would be enough to power more than 100 Discovery's at a time), and then on-sells it using actuarial skills, technical marketing, risk management and business acumen to create energy products that are more fit for business consumption.It represents a new and exciting way to apply Discovery innovation with traditional actuarial skills to a new, fertile industry, assisting South Africa with achieving energy security, and appreciably decarbonising businesses.Key PurposeDiscovery Green is seeking a talented Technical Marketing Actuary to join its dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join a dynamic team and make a real impact.Technical Marketing is a core function throughout the Discovery Group, responsible for analytical and research projects that support product development, sales and distribution strategies, and strategic initiatives throughout the business. The skills and expertise of Technical Marketing and distribution will be critical as Discovery Green continues to expand.Key Outputs / Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:The chance to play a key part in producing high-quality presentations for Client Sales meetings, involving data gathering, interpreting information, and creating a polished overall look and feel.The successful candidate will attend Client meetings, supporting the team in making sales, and will assist in inventing and tailoring the rapidly evolving product set that Discovery Green requires, demonstrating an innovative and agile product development mindset.Responsibilities will also include assisting in reviewing and refining actuarial models related to the business' risk, pricing, and cashflow for governance and planning purposes. This role is expected to fit into the Discovery Green agile culture, where roles are not siloed, and individuals are likely to be expected to assist across different disciplines in sales, finance, actuarial, marketing, product development, and research.Additionally, the role will involve assisting in the curation of models that optimise renewable energy aggregation from producers and allocation to consumers, as well as producing sales documents for clients, including propositions, contracts, quotations, and general overviews.The successful candidate will collaborate with Marketing and Distribution teams to ensure the latest available assets, content, and information is available for clients and the distribution force. They will also derive new insights and make recommendations on product positioning, intermediary sales tools, position papers, and product development.Work Experience
  • At least 2 -3 years' experience in Technical Marketing environment
Education / Qualifications / Accreditations with Professional Body
  • Formal qualification/s, with a strong analytical or business focus, and a proven record of academic excellence (Actuarial, Mathematics)
