Farm Manager (Expat) - JhbFull job descriptionOur client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Farm Manager to oversee the operations of a large irrigated sugar farm in Zambia. The farm spans over 2600 hectares and utilizes center pivot irrigation systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the production of various crops, including Wheat, Maize, Soya, Bananas, and Sugarcane. The Farm Manager should possess relevant qualifications and a minimum of 10 years of experience in managing agricultural production on a similar scale.Responsibilities:Crop Production Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of all crop production activities on the farm, ensuring optimal yield and quality for each crop, including Wheat, Maize, Soya, Bananas, and Sugarcane.Irrigation Management: Efficiently manage the center pivot irrigation systems, ensuring proper water distribution and irrigation scheduling to meet the specific requirements of each crop.Farm Operations: Supervise and coordinate day-to-day farm operations, including land preparation, planting, fertilization, pest and disease control, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.Equipment and Machinery: Manage the maintenance, repair, and utilization of farm machinery and equipment, ensuring their efficient operation and availability when needed.Budgeting and Cost Control: Develop and manage the farm’s annual budget, monitor expenses, and implement cost-saving measures without compromising the quality and productivity of the farm.Staff Management: Lead and motivate a team of farm workers, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure a productive and harmonious work environment.Health and Safety: Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations on the farm, promoting a safe working environment for all employees.Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of farm activities, including crop yields, expenses, and any relevant data, and provide regular reports to senior management.Key Skills:Strong knowledge and understanding of crop production techniques, irrigation systems, and farm management practices.Proven experience in managing multiple crops, including Wheat, Maize, Soya, Bananas, and Sugarcane.Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage a diverse team.Proficient in budgeting, cost control, and financial management.Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.Knowledge of health and safety regulations in an agricultural setting.Valid driver’s license.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Agriculture, Agronomy, or related field.Minimum of 10 years of experience in managing agricultural production, preferably on a large-scale irrigated farm.Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
