Job Summary PURPOSE/MAIN JOB FUNCTION Our client is looking for an experienced Mine Closure and Rehabilitation specialist to join our team. As a consultant in their Mine Closure, Rehabilitation and Land Management Division, you will play a pivotal role in guiding their clients through the strategic planning and execution of mine closure projects. Leveraging your expertise in environmental management, you will contribute to the development of comprehensive mine closure and rehabilitation plans, risk assessments and associated mine closure liability estimates to mitigate environmental impacts and restore ecosystems, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry best practice. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Calculation of mine closure costs/ Financial Provision Assessments to satisfy regulatory requirements (GN R 1147 and other relevant legislation) Development of management frameworks and strategies, in consultation with clients, to manage closure costs. Mine Closure and rehabilitation risk identification and management Development of rehabilitation strategies and procedures Development of mine closure and rehabilitation plan(s) On-site rehabilitation supervision Rehabilitation monitoring (Environmental control officer and auditing duties) Development of post-mining land use plans Supervision of post mine closure land management and agricultural projects Assisting with project management functions, including developing project schedules, invoicing, budget management, and proposal development. Client liaison Critical Education & Experience Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science or similar; Professional registration (EAPASA, SACNASP) beneficial Post graduate degree in Environmental Management or similar (beneficial); Minimum 4 years experience as a Mine Closure Specialist, preferably within the Environmental Consulting Sector Strong understanding of applicable mine closure and financial provisioning legislation and regulations and how the regulations are practically implemented. Good understanding of rehabilitation techniques Experience in managing projects and budgets Computer/Tech Literacy Proficient in MS Office, including MS Excel & MS Word; Knowledge of GIS systems and modelling software (Global Mapper) - beneficial Excellent report writing and presentation skills. Strong numerical ability and excellent attention to detail Ability to write technical rehabilitation reports. Ability to read and understand engineering designs and technical reports.
